Delhi Metro is the term which is very familiar to all delhiets as well as others. One, who arrive Delhi, definitely wants to take a ride with Delhi metro once. Over 10 year of service, it give rise to many changes and in them the latest which I gone through is “Do not carry a bag or laptop on your back”, this statement seems so similar and non effective but actually it is one of the most important announcement as far as I think is.
The question arises how this announcement holds a certain value and why???
I want to conclude giving example of one of my friend Narendra, a 22 year, 5 foot tall boy, who is a regular commuter of Delhi Metro. In our societal term we call these people “dwarf”, and when it comes to Delhi metro he has to suffer a lot everyday. He use to board the metro from one of the stations which is not a starting station, so it’s almost not possible for him to get a seat and hence he use to travel for 15 stations standing, in peek hours. It is the worst half hour of his day, and in this the worst he faces is the bags worn by other people. He crushes his face in between the bags of the people surrounding him, and when he has to move some steps he has to pull away all the bags in his way instead of people.

There are many other Narendra traveling daily to their workplace and home through metro, and being the most convenient public transport, it’s the people who made it difficult for others. It’s not only the short one but everyone used to suffer with these heavy backpacks. People couldn’t generate an idea how much space they are covering from their bags. It became much more difficult when it comes to peek hours, it’s the time when people don’t have space to stand and still commuters are being exchanged at every station, many couldn’t deboard at their respective stations and the most probable reason is these backpacks.

The other question arises as people use to carry important documents with them so they can’t travel without any bag, and everybody can’t afford a briefcase so how they will manage?
Well for this there are many other ways how one can put his bag with him. One always feels shy to carry them on their fronts but can apply this and can have an idea of the space the bag is covering. One can put his bag on his feet if it is too much crowded, with this he will not occupy much space as well as it will also become easier for other commuters to move. And when it is not so much crowded you can put it on the sides of doors or can ask the other ones who occupy seat to carry your bag.

The obvious reason is that it doesn’t hurt our soldiers to carry a bag, but if we carry it in our hands our hands will hurt after some time. But there is also a thing that one can not become suffering for others when it’s a public space. You will not like if someone’s bag is rubbing your face or chest, at time it become irritating for you but the fact of the matter is you can’t do anything just to avoid it.

So, it’s a great effort by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to made such announcement, it’s a different thing that people don’t take it as seriously, they just listen and let it go, some of the commuters might not even gone through this phase because of their headphones in their ears, but change starts slowly and it will take time for people to understand this fact. It should be our motto to travel not with our convenience but it should not hurt other’s journey as well. It is a transport system for us, so it’s our duty to think and act accordingly.
